Participate in Uniorchester
We are delighted that you are interested in the University Orchestra Dresden!
At the beginning of each semester, we offer open rehearsals and auditions so that you can get to know us—and we can get to know you better. Anyone who wishes to join the University Orchestra must take part in an audition. The open rehearsals are optional, but they are helpful for both you and us!
How to Join Us
Joining the orchestra usually involves three simple steps.
Register
Attend a open Rehearsal
Attend an audition
Why do we hold auditions?
An audition gives us a glimpse of your way of making music, which helps us decide whether we can make music together. We also believe it is the fairest method of selecting from the wonderfully large number of applications we receive.
We are aware that auditions can be nerve-wracking for many players. However, every single one of our members has gone through an audition themselves and knows the tense feeling of such a situation. That is why we will do our best to make the experience as relaxed as possible for you.
The audition will be attended by our artistic director, our orchestra council, and, if necessary, additional orchestra members.
Open Rehearsals
Get-to-Know-You Sessions
During a trial rehearsal, you can see how we rehearse and whether the orchestra’s approach suits you. The trial rehearsal is not a substitute for an audition, but it can help you decide whether to sign up.
Audition Requirements
We have intentionally kept the requirements brief. We will publish the complete audition materials well in advance of the audition.
Technique
Performance Piece
Free choice, approx. 2 minutes. No piano accompaniment.
