We are delighted that you are interested in the University Orchestra Dresden!
At the beginning of each semester, we offer open rehearsals and auditions so that you can get to know us—and we can get to know you better. Anyone who wishes to join the University Orchestra must take part in an audition. The open rehearsals are optional, but they are helpful for both you and us!

Why do we hold auditions?
An audition gives us a glimpse of your way of making music, which helps us decide whether we can make music together. We also believe it is the fairest method of selecting from the wonderfully large number of applications we receive.

We are aware that auditions can be nerve-wracking for many players. However, every single one of our members has gone through an audition themselves and knows the tense feeling of such a situation. That is why we will do our best to make the experience as relaxed as possible for you.

The audition will be attended by our artistic director, our orchestra council, and, if necessary, additional orchestra members.

Open Rehearsals

So that you can get a first impression of our orchestra and get to know us better before the audition, we offer open rehearsals.
The next open rehearsals will take place on October 13 and 14, 2025, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. in the Audimax. The auditions will follow on October 20 and 21.

In justified cases, new admissions and auditions can also take place during the ongoing semester.

• A short piece of your choice (approx. two minutes), there is no accompaniment available
